Fireworks Night 2021
1st Harwell (St. Matthew’s) Scout Group held our community firework display on Friday 5th November 2021. In a change from previous years, the display was held at our new home at the Recreation Ground (not the School).
Thank you to David Marsh for sending us these amazing photos of the night!
Entry by donation – any funds raised beyond the cost of the fireworks will go towards the completion of refurbishments on the Scout Pavilion building.
Bar and BBQ – There will be a licensed bar selling beer, wine, cider and soft drinks and also a BBQ selling hot dogs and burgers. The bar and BBQ will take cash and cards.
Timings – Gates open at 6:30 pm for Scout families, 7 pm for the non-Scouting public. Fireworks will be at about 7:30 pm. The bar and BBQ will close by 9 pm, but the Harwellian club would welcome anyone who wants to continue the evening.
Entry to the recreation ground – please arrive via the car park from Westfield – other gates will not be open.
Parking – as in previous years when the event has been at the school, there will be no organised parking. We would encourage you to walk to the event if at all possible. If you do need to drive, please do not part in Westfield. Please park elsewhere in the village and walk the last few hundred yards to avoid gridlock in Westfield. In particular please leave the recreation ground car park for disabled badge holders.
Set Up – we will be setting up the event on the recreation ground on Friday afternoon – please feel free to use the recreation ground during this time, but keep clear of any fenced off areas for safety.
Clear Up – we clear up as much as possible on the Friday night after the event. However, it’s inevitable that small debris (and sometimes some larger items like rocket sticks) can be missed in the dark. We will be doing a full litter pick in daylight on Saturday morning. If you intend to use the recreation ground early on Saturday morning, please be aware of the possibility of some firework litter being on the ground at that time.
COVID – there are currently no regulations requiring social distancing or mask-wearing at outdoor events of this nature, however, some people still may prefer to take precautions. Please enjoy the evening in a way that feels safe to you and respect the choices of others that may differ from your own. In the event of significant new COVID restrictions being imposed by the government, the event may be postponed or cancelled.
Thank You to Harwell Parish Council for giving permission to use the recreation ground for this event.
