ESU Sponsored Challenge Hike
1st Harwell ESU – Sponsored Challenge Hike 4-5th July
This summer, Harwell Explorers are taking on an epic challenge: walking the entire perimeter of our Scout District (Thames Ridge). ~75 kilometres over the course of one weekend.
It’s not a race. It’s about each Explorer pushing their own boundaries and taking on a distance that’s a real challenge for them personally. Some will be tackling their longest walk yet. Others will be testing their endurance and determination in ways they haven’t before.
Leaders will be stationed at checkpoints throughout the route, ready with supplies, encouragement, and the occasional cheer to keep spirits high. It’s going to be an awesome challenge, and our Explorers are ready to prove what they’re capable of.
What we’re raising funds for…
Every step of this hike is helping to fund our Summer Expedition 2026 – a once-in-a-lifetime trip across Europe to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in the Swiss Alps.
Over the course of the expedition, we’ll be exploring cities and towns across Europe, trying out alpine activities like hiking and climbing in the mountains, and meeting Scouts from all over the world. KISC is a permanent mini jamboree site established by Baden-Powell himself 103 years ago, which means it’s a piece of Scouting history that connects us to the movement’s roots.
This isn’t just a holiday. It’s an opportunity for our young people to step outside their comfort zones, experience new cultures, build lifelong friendships, and create memories that will stay with them forever.
Every donation, however big or small, helps make this expedition possible. Your support means the world to our Explorers and the Leaders as they work towards this incredible adventure.
