Coronavirus and Scouting
Dear Team, Parents and Carers,
Please see the link here which is a directive from Scouting HQ.
https://scouts.org.uk/coronavirus
We were anyway mindful of the Governments position broadcast yesterday but now required to follow this HQ Directive.
Consequently, there will be no further Scouting activities involving collective meetings until further notice. Our Planned Beetle Drive on March 28th will also not now take place.
Many of you will have paid for future activities including Aqua Camp (which will now not take place this year) Troop Camp (which is also in jeopardy) and the Beaver sleepover For all cancelled events Refunds will, of course, be made. Ideally, such refunds will be arranged at a time where they can be systematically controlled (event by event) However if any family has a need for an early repayment please send Me (not section leader) a mail Confirming Members Name, Event paid for and Bank account details for a refund. to gsl@harwellscouts.org.uk.
Our Local and National associations are devising opportunities for “Home Scouting” and some progression through the Scouting awards scheme. We will release these to you as they become available, Maybe supplement with some local ideas and hope you will embrace the initiatives so we can be awarding many badges once things return to normal.
Referencing the Scouting ethos of “Community Service” there have been both local (St Matthew’s) and National observations (See Tim Kid Message). Once guidelines are clearer, we may well be in touch with families of our teenage membership tabling Ideas of how we may engage to make life more tolerable for our at Risk Neighbours.
I wish all a safe journey through these times and look forward to (hopefully) an early return to normality.
Brian Zimmerman
Group Scout Leader
