Blog 1: Harwell to Prague
Hi parents!
We left Harwell and had an eventful start to our epic road trip when heavy traffic caused us to miss our ferry, but thankfully we got on the next one and it wasn’t a problem. This meant that the journey through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany was through the night, and there were some massive storms. There seem to be roadworks on just about every road in Europe, so instead of going to a campsite we slept in the vans at a service station.
After stocking up on coffee and chocolate we left for Prague. The campsite was right in the centre, next to a tram stop. As soon as we arrived, George opened a Top Gear-style envelope with the first surprise: a Segway tour of Prague for everyone! This was awesome fun, especially when Austin crashed into Dan; which made Garrett decide to drive into a tree. Austin also took footage on the GoPro camera so you’ll be able to see Prague too.
That night there was another massive storm, which made the barbecue slightly more challenging. We cracked on and soon had the meat of unknown animal origin cooked. Despite the large lake that was our campsite, most stuff was dry by the time we woke up. We spent a leisurely day in Prague, eating Trdlo and ice-cream, and did a quiz where we had to ask locals about the city.
Looking forward to going to Budapest next, but not really the drive. The vans get pretty toasty when it’s 39.5 degrees outside!
