Beavers at Group Camp
Recently 1st Harwell Scout Group went to Harry’s Island Campsite in the New Forest, for the weekend. Early Saturday morning, 26 Beavers gathered at Harwell Recreation Ground to travel down to the New Forest, to join the rest of 1st Harwell Group.
Early Saturday morning, the Beavers were picked up by 2 minibuses from Harwell Recreation Ground. They set off on their journey to camp. Once they arrived, they quickly ate breakfast and joined the rest of the group. We opened camp and everyone was split into Patrols. There were 3 Patrols, made up of members from all the sections.
Saturday activities was a little different for Beavers. They took part in activities which many had never done before. but with help from their Patrol Leader all the Beavers had a brilliant time and learnt lots at the same time! Activities included: fire lighting, water slide and incident hike. Whilst the older sections went off on their bike ride, the Beavers all gained their Navigation Level 1 Badge, learning compass and map skills! They also worked in teams to set up their pup tents in the marquee and set up their beds. In the evening we joined the rest of 1st Harwell for a big Group Campfire!
Sunday morning, the Beavers woke early! They packed away their kits and tents, and were ready for another hike!! They all walked 6 miles to the Owl Sanctuary in Ringwood. We had a presentation there, where we got to see lots of owls and some other species too!! Everyone had a great time watching the birds fly over our heads!!
Once we finished at the Owl Sanctuary, it was soon time to get in the coach and go home.
Everyone had a brilliant time!!
