Cubs Visit Fire Station
In March Driftway Cubs visited Didcot Fire Station, which we learned was the centre where most firefighters in Oxfordshire come to do their training. We started the evening learning about hazards in the home and how to test smoke alarms as part of the Cubs fire safety badge.
The newly qualified firefighters were great sports modelling 3 types of suit for flooding, fires and chemical accidents.
The Cubs finished off the evening by jumping in a fire engine cab and even got to spray water with a full-size hose reel.
Here is a photo of the group taken with the firefighters’ infrared camera which the Cubs learned was used to locate people at night during floods and other rescues.
