Ho-Ho comes to Oxfordshire
Thirty-six Dutch Scouts and their four Leaders arrived at Youlbury Scout Activity Centre on 23rd July as part of the 21st World Scout Jamboree experience.
The group, called Koolmezen, had signed up to the Home Hospitality scheme offered by the UK Scout Association which gives the Jamboree Units a chance to spend some time with British Scouts.
George Laing, Explorer Scout Leader from 1st Harwell Scout Group, hosted the Unit for 3 days. Along with the help of members of Harwell’s Network and Explorer Units.
Their favourite activity during their stay in Oxfordshire was when the Leaders and members from Harwell’s Scout Group came to Youlbury for a Wide Game, BBQ and Campfire. Scouts from Harwell were able to experience a small part of World Jamboree and make some International Friends!
During their stay at Youlbury Scout Activity Centre, the Troop from The Netherlands went Sailing at Farmoor Reserviour, had a tour of Oxford, had a Wide Game with local Scouts and went on some of the new activities at the Centre including; the Aerial Trek, 3G Swing, Zip Wire, Adventure Course and Go-Karts. Hopefully the Camp gave them an insight into what UK Scouts get up to on our Camps.
Before coming to Oxfordshire the whole of the Dutch Contingent had been staying at Kibblestone International Scout Camp, in Staffordshire, where they had been going on local visits and doing lots of activities.
The Group were fantastic, full of energy and didn’t even let the rain (and flooding in Oxford!) dampen their spirits!
The Troop then went back up to Kibblestone International Scout Campsite before going on to The World Scout Jamboree in Chemslford. Strangely enough Koolmezen happened to be at the same Sub Camp as the Oxfordshire Unit!
